HASTINGS, NE — It’s time to give in Hastings, and it’s also time to celebrate.

Thursday is the ninth annual Give Hastings Day and the first time the Hastings Community Foundation has hosted a headquarters. Executive Director Dan Peters says the event needed something fresh after a couple of pandemic-altered years.

“It was just time to add some celebration, some fun back into Give Day where we can celebrate the good work of non-profits and we can celebrate philanthropy in the community,” Peters said.

The headquarters at The Lark venue downtown offers programming throughout the day, including a business after hours event and live evening music. Donors can stop in and donate to one, multiple or all 96 non-profits associated with Give Hastings Day.

“For donors, it’s all about ease. Ease of giving, the convenience of one charge, writing one check,” Peters said.

The entertainment is broken up by hits of the gong, which signify reaching another $25,000 milestone. Peters says the event has raised $3.5 million dollars over eight years. Early giving exceeded last year’s early giving and he’s hopeful to come in ahead in the total amount as well.

“Give Day provides and opportunity for non-profits to not only just get dollars to keep them afloat, but dollars to do new initiatives, new programming, new ideas," Peters said. "The impact in the community for something like that is just incredible.”
