GRAND ISLAND, Neb.— Three off-duty deputies received an award from the Nebraska State Fair for their response to a medical emergency this summer.

Derek Bosler of Stanton County, Donovan Fowler and Larry Lucas both of Hall County were given the Lifesaving Award for, according to the fair, saving a woman’s life.

During the fair, the three deputies were working as security when a guest started choking. They all jumped in and administered CPR until medical personnel arrived.

“Their actions demonstrate the importance of strong public safety partnerships and proper training,” Executive Director of the Nebraska State Fair Jaime Parr said. “Because of their calm response and lifesaving skills, a guest was able to return home safely and will be celebrating a [now] even more special holiday this season.”

The men were given the award during the fair’s December meeting.
