GMCO Growth Technologies completes Grand Island plant, ready to go into full production
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - - A new plant that will produce a Nebraska-born fertilizer is ready to go into full production.
GMCO Growth Technologies started construction on its Grand Island plant about a year ago. It's now completed and will start production of Nitro-Mag fertilizer after this week's Husker Harvest Days.
“Anytime you’re building a new facility and making things happen, it’s pretty darn exciting. It’s part of our future, it’s going to be a big part of our future moving forward. We’re looking forward to getting in full production and moving on,” said manager Bryan French.
The facility will be producing a one-of a kind fertilizer that it's creators describe as the first innovation in the industry in more than 25 years. The plant will produce more than 10 million gallons of Nitro-Mag each year.
“There’s nothing like it in the marketplace at this time," said French. "That’s why we called it a unique product, it’s a fertilizer, it’s a nutrient-based product.”
The product is meant to maximize crop yield production. The newly completed plant contains four storage tanks that hold two million gallons each and a production building that contains a steam boiler and a product mixer.
GMCO built the plant near a railroad so that Nitro-Mag raw materials be delivered, but also to allow for the product to get out quicker and more efficiently to farmers.
The company has five employees now and plans to grow to a full-time force of 13 people.
“There’ll be more structures go up in the future," said French. "We’re just in the kind of the the second phase, the final phase will be coming this next year where we’ll add a storage facility that’ll hook up with the building right here.”
Production is on schedule for the Nebraska 2025 growing season and their goal is to reach other markets beyond the state.
