Kearney considers new SkyWest agreement to bring back daily flights to Chicago
Kearney City Council will consider a proposal from SkyWest Airlines to add a daily flight to Chicago.
By News Channel NebraskaKEARNEY, Neb. — Flights from Kearney to Chicago could soon make a comeback.
The Kearney City Council will consider a new agreement with SkyWest Airlines that would add another daily round-trip flight between Kearney Regional Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
Under the proposed air service agreement, SkyWest, operating as United Express, would begin offering the additional flight on April 30, 2026, with service continuing through October 31, 2027.
The route would operate seven days a week using a 50-passenger CRJ200 aircraft, giving travelers expanded access.
SkyWest first launched Chicago service from Kearney in 2019, but the company ended its contract in 2022 amid a nationwide pilot shortage.
That decision also ended its Denver flights until Denver Air Connection stepped in as a replacement carrier.
SkyWest later returned to the Denver route on November 1, 2024.
City Council members will review and vote on the proposal during their meeting on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
