Kearney woman sentenced in spouse’s 2024 shooting death

Karen Geisler has been sentenced to decades in prison just over year after her husband was found shot to death.

KEARNEY, Neb. — A Kearney woman has been sentenced to decades in prison just over year after her husband was shot to death.

On Friday, 57-year-old Karen Geisler appeared in Buffalo County District Court for sentencing on two felony charges.

Geisler was sentenced to 20 to 40 years on the attempted second-degree murder charge, and 11 to 15 years for use of a firearm to commit a felony.

She received 270 days credit for time already served.

The court sealed the affidavit which contains details of the investigation.

Other court documents reveal that victim Jimmy Geisler, Karen's husband, was shot by a .38 revolver in the Oct. 20, 2024 shooting.
