Large response to West Kearney home damaged in afternoon fire

KEARNEY, Neb. — A house fire in West Kearney leading to a large emergency response Wednesday afternoon.

The call coming in around 2:40 for a report of a structure fire in the area of 20th avenue and 35th street.

Large amounts of smoke could be seen from blocks away as several members of the Kearney volunteer fire department fought to contain the blaze.

Firefighters focused their efforts on the home's garage and attic, where fire continued to flare up.

The home shows major visible fire damage along with two cars parked in the garage.

It took just under an hour to get the fire under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
