GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - The Nebraska State Patrol is announcing that two Lexington residents were killed on I-80 after crossing the median and hitting a semi head-on.

Around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, a Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling west on I-80 near mile marker 310, when it lost control, crossed the median, and struck a semi traveling East.

Both occupants of the Chevrolet, Emelin Ortega Rodas, 25, and Daniel Ortega Marroquin, 62, both of Lexington, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

State patrol said that severe winter weather was a factor in the crash, and that the crash remains under investigation.

The patrol added that it responded to over 300 weather-related traffic incidents during Nebraska’s latest winter storm.
