KEARNEY, Neb. — The University of Nebraska is moving forward in the process to find the next chancellor for the Kearney campus.

NU announced Monday that it will host six different listening sessions at the UNK Regional Engagement Center next week. The sessions are meant to offer students, faculty, staff and community members opportunities to share qualities and attributes they believe are important for the role.

Dates and times for sessions are:

  • Nov. 18, 3 p.m.: listening session for faculty  
  • Nov. 18, 5 p.m.: listening session for students (food provided)
  • Nov. 18, 7:15 p.m.: listening session for community members
  • Nov. 19, 9 a.m.: listening session for faculty
  • Nov. 19, 10:30 a.m.: listening session for deans and vice chancellors
  • Nov. 19, noon: listening session for staff (lunch provided)

All sessions will be held in room 120.

Dr. Charlie Bicak has been serving as interim chancellor since Doug Kristensen’s retirement in June. Kristensen filled the role for 22 years, making him the longest-serving chancellor in University of Nebraska history.

The UNK chancellor search committee is facilitating the listening sessions. Following the listening sessions, the search firm CarterBaldwin and the search committee will work together with the President’s Office to develop a job description and begin inviting nominations and applications.
