McCOOK, Neb. -- Authorities say they extinguished a single-wide trailer Tuesday morning in McCook.

The McCook Fire Department said the structure fire happened Tuesday morning in the 1400 block of E Fairacres.

The first crews reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the back of the house.

MFD said that all residents of the home, as well as the pet, were able to get out of the home safely before the fire department arrived.

The heavy smoke and fire were reported to be coming from the back half of the house and had spread to the vehicle that was located outside of the building.

The fire department said that the fire also caused damage to the neighboring structure's exterior.

MFD said personnel quickly extinguished the fire, but the fire had already cause severe damage to the home and contents.

Firefighters said they remain on scene to extinguish hotspots.

According to MFD, the cause of the fire appears to be electrical in nature, and having started in the back bedroom area.

An investigator was called in from the Nebraska State Fire Marshals Officer to assist in the investigation.

The American Red Cross responded to provide aid to the displaced residents.

MFD said they responded with one ladder truck, one engine, one ambulance and one command vehicle. There was also mutual aid provided by Red Willow Western Rural Fire Department.

Eleven fire personnel spent more than two hours on the scene.
