Grand Island woman sentenced for attack on pregnant teen
A Grand Island woman will spend the next year and a half in prison after an assault on a pregnant teenager.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- A Grand Island woman will spend the next year and a half in prison after an assault on a pregnant teenager.
29-year-old Maria Carranza-Contreras was sentenced to 18 months for third-degree assault.
A related child abuse charge was dropped.
Grand Island Police say the assault happened in March on S. Cherry Street on the east side of town.
Police say Carranza-Contreras was in a fit of rage and attempted to punish the teen, assaulting the 17-year-old, of whom she was the guardian. She allegedly pulled the teen's hair, rammed her head into a wall and kicked her unconscious body.
