Peru State women's cross country team finished 12th of 14 teams

(Peru, Neb.) – On another windy and what turned out to be a warm day in November, the Peru State women's cross country team finished 12th of 14 teams in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) Championship.
 
Baker (Kan.) hosted the event on Saturday in Baldwin City.
 
Benedictine (Kan.) won the championship with a team total of 24. The hosts finished second with 71 points.

Other placings included: third – MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) – 98, fourth – Mount Mercy (Iowa) – 128, fifth – Graceland (Iowa) – 165, sixth – Grand View (Iowa) – 172, seventh – Clarke (Iowa) – 189, eighth – Central Methodist (Mo.) – 206, ninth – William Penn (Iowa) – 245, tenth – Evangel (Mo.) – 262, 11th – Park (Mo.) – 269, 12th – Peru State – 326, 13th – Missouri Valley – 347, and 14th – Culver-Stockton (Mo.) – 397.
 
Briana McLaughlin (Robins, Iowa) led Peru State in the championship by finishing 49th in a time of 22:13.55. McLaughlin placed 43rd in terms of scoring.
 
Alyssa Brink (Oakland, Iowa) finished 80th/60th in a time of 23:56.20 while Hailey Clark (Tecumseh) was 92nd/69th in 25:12.89. 

Sierra Jones (Falls City) was 100th/73rd in 26:07.41. This was Jones' best time of the season. Annika McDonald (Tecumseh) finished 109th/81st in 29:24.41 while Makalah Scheele (Beatrice) was 114th/85th in 31:38.73.
 
Peru State ran without two runners due to the COVID-19 virus. Aubrey Wattier (Malcolm) and Isabella Watkins (Omaha) were unable to compete as they were quarantined due to contact tracing.
 
This was the final meet of the season for Peru State under the leadership of coaches James Cole and Jim Thurman.
