Lincoln County Raceway hopes to host races starting in June

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The update Directive Health Measure Governor Ricketts announced Thursday for Lincoln County will allow more sporting events to be held starting June 1.

Lincoln County Raceway promoter Dave Craft hopes to host an event on June 13, with precautions in place in the stands and pit.

Craft hopes to be able to host the race with 25 percent capacity in the stands, which would be about 550 people.

"We're going to partition the grandstands in a manner where we can have small groups of six, but no more than six, sitting a row, and then we'll skip several rows and we'll open up another row. That will allow 25 percent margin but not to exceed the 25 percent capacity," Craft said. "Then in the pits, we have the capacity for about 250 cars, we'll do is we'll take every other spot."

Craft is drafting up the guidelines for hosting the race, to submit to the West Central Health District for approval.

Craft has been working with the International Motor Contest Association for the possibility to set up pay-per-view streaming for races this summer, and he hopes to have six to eight weeks worth of races between June and September.

"Having something that you can go to and still socially distance, feel safe, is important. Not everybody just wants to go to the store, some people want to do some outside activities, and racing is one of those things. So, I think we can offer some fun and excitement, and do it in a manner of that is safe," Craft said.
