KEARNEY, Neb. - The path for the next generation of educators is now more streamlined in central Nebraska.

The University of Nebraska-Kearney designed a new pathway program creating an easier transition for students who want to complete an associate degree at Central Community College and then transfer directly into UNK’s teacher education programs. Traditionally, students who start at community college may not have all their credits transferred to a four-year institution, resulting in delayed graduation time and higher costs.

CCC vice president of innovation and instruction Candance Walton says this new partnership is a winning formula for both students and Nebraska.

"This is a student-first partnership that lowers cost, clarifies the path to licensure and helps build a stronger, local pipeline of well-prepared teachers for Nebraska schools," Walton said.

There is more information on the teacher education pathway program online at unk.edu/academics/ted/index.php.
