New Nebraska laws kick in for 2026

KEARNEY, Neb. — A new year brings new rules for workers, families and businesses across Nebraska.

Several new state laws are now in effect, including Nebraska’s new minimum wage, which has increased to $15 an hour after voters approved the measure back in 2022.

Starting next year, future increases will depend on the cost of living.

A new law also focuses on online safety for children. The Age-Appropriate Online Design Code Act requires many websites and apps to build privacy protections into their design for minors.

Changes are also in place for SNAP benefits — Nebraska will no longer allow SNAP funds to be used to purchase soda or energy drinks.
