Man convicted of murdering Columbus woman, shooting at Hastings Police to be sentenced in November

Anthony Mattison will be sentenced November 26th in Hastings for crimes in both Adams and Clay Counties.

CLAY COUNTY, Neb. — The man convicted of killing a Columbus woman and dumping her body in a Clay County field will be sentenced next month.

Court records show 36-year-old Anthony Mattison will be sentenced November 26th in Hastings for crimes in both Adams and Clay Counties.

Mattison pleaded no contest to second-degree murder for the 2022 shooting death of 25-year-old Jasmine Garnett, whose body was found near Harvard.

He also pleaded no contest to two counts of attempted murder for a shootout with Hastings Police days after Garnett went missing.

Mattison faces up to life in prison when he’s sentenced.
