KEARNEY, Neb. -- A man convicted of assaulting and strangling a mother in front of her children is being put behind bars for decades.

Police say Justin Hadenfeldt, 38, went to the home of a Kearney woman he knew, hit and choked her while the kids were in the house, forcing her to be hospitalized and endure a lengthy recovery.

He's getting between 20 and 50 years for first degree assault. The 10-20 years for assault by strangulation is being served at the same time.

He is getting an additional 10-20 years for the burglary portion of his crimes, according to court records.

Hadenfeldt pleaded no contest to have the habitual criminal enhancements removed.
