SHELTON, Neb. -- Law enforcement are investigating an explosion/fire incident that left one person dead in Buffalo County. 

The Buffalo County Sheriff's Office said they are investigating the circumstances that surround a death, explosion and fire at a rural cabin south of Shelton. Shelton is about 20 miles east of Kearney.

On Oct. 15, authorities said that Shelton firefighters and law enforcement were called to the fire located on the south side of the Platte River. 

The incident was reported around 5:22 Tuesday morning, but the exact time of the explosion/fire is unknown. 

Law enforcement that that while on the scene they found a body they believe is an adult man. The person was found dead inside the cabin remains. 

The investigation for the fire as well as the death of the person are under an ongoing investigation. 

It was reported that no other occupants were believed to be in the cabin at the time of the explosion. Authorities said that the cabin was destroyed.

The Sheriff's Office said that from the initial investigation foul play is not suspected.

The identity of the victim has not been confirmed yet and the investigation continues. BCSO said the Buffalo County Attorney's Office has ordered an autopsy. 

The Shelton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and deputies were assisted by members of the Wood River and Gibbon Volunteer Fire Departments, Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s Office, and Buffalo County Attorney’s Office.
