HASTINGS, Neb. – A News Channel Nebraska radio station in Central Nebraska is celebrating its move to a new building.

On Wednesday morning KHAS Radio in Hastings hosted the Hastings Chamber of Commerce to cut the ribbon on its new space in the Burlington Center.

The new space features two recording studios, multiple offices, and an upgraded look from its old building.

KHAS Radio began in Hastings in 1940 airing out of the current Hastings Tribune building on Burlington Ave. and 2nd St.

KHAS then moved to a standalone building on the southeast edge of town in 1999 before moving to its current spot.

KHAS Radio has been the home of Partyline since 1941, a daily morning call-in show where people can buy, sell, and trade items with residents of Hastings and its surrounding area.

Brandon J. McDermott is the current Operations Manager and hosts Partyline each weekday morning.

A man who cut his teeth in the radio business while starting his career, he says the radio station is performing at the best rate it's ever been at.

"We have taken KHAS on a rocket ship in the last 10 months," said McDermott. "It really feels like we've just tipped the iceberg, just got the very tip of it when it comes to what we can do in this community."

According to Nielsen ratings, the radio station's ratings doubled from August 2023 to February 2024.

In January, KHAS Radio was awarded 'Business of the Year' for under 25 employees by the Hastings Chamber of Commerce.

The station also upgraded its Partyline morning show from one hour to an hour and half in January 2024 due to popular demand.

McDermott says more big things are on the horizon for KHAS.

"We have some fun stuff up our sleeves," said McDermott. "We are going to be doing a promotion I cannot share quite yet that is going to be the biggest promotion this station has done – I'm saying in 25 years, but it could probably be ever."
