NORFOLK - The Kearney Bearcats have won its eighth game on the year and third straight after leaving Norfolk with a 1-0 win on Tuesday night.

The wind played a major factor in controlling the game's tempo, as well as finding crosses and through balls, but Kearney's aggressive play gave them a major advantage offensively.

Norfolk's defense held up well against the attacking Kearney 4-3-3, but in the 35th minute, just five minutes before halftime, the Bearcats truck gold.

After a pass deflection, Addie Snyder reversed the ball to freshman Liberty Province, who unleashed a cannon from nearly 30 yards away from goal.

Norfolk's Tasha Eisenhower backpedaled, but couldn't reach the arching shot as the ball blazed by for the Bearcat goal. The goal was the first EVER goal scored in Liberty Province's soccer career.

After halftime, the Panthers put an emphasis on finding offensive opportunities, but the Bearcats continued to take the ball away before any real chances.

Norfolk had a few chances late, including a corner kick that resulted in a powerful header that skied over the crossbar in the final minute.

Kearney managed to fend off one final scoring chance and held on for the team's eighth win, moving their record to 8-1. The Bearcats will face Lincoln High later in the week.

Norfolk drops to 5-2 and looks to rebound on Wednesday night with a matchup against #1 Lincoln Southwest.
