Kearney gets ready for Give Where You Live fundraising event

A central Nebraska city is preparing for its biggest day of giving.

KEARNEY, Neb.- A central Nebraska city is preparing for its biggest day of giving. 

Since 2013, the Kearney community has rallied to raise funds for different nonprofits on the first Thursday of December. 

The Kearney Area Community Foundation organizes the Give Where You Live event. President/CEO Judi Sickler said the causes improve the quality of living in Kearney. 

“I just think there’s something fun about being part of a winning team and Kearney is just so good about giving back, you know you don’t have to be a millionaire to make an impact,” Sickler said.

188 nonprofits are participating this year and each nonprofit is asked that 90% of the funds raised stay local. 

Last year, $1.6 million was donated and the foundation is hoping they are able to raise more than that. 

Throughout the day, there will be 23 giving destinations where you can learn about a nonprofit and donate. For a complete list and more information about the day visit givewhereyoulive.com
