Kearney Police officer resigns after making plea deal in misconduct case

KEARNEY, Neb. — A Kearney police officer is no longer with the department after reaching a plea deal in a criminal case.
Jennifer Caudillo resigned from her position last week as part of the conditions of her plea. The Nebraska State Attorney General’s Office charged her with false reporting in December. The specific details that led to the charge aren’t revealed in court documents, but the complaint accuses her of providing false information to a law enforcement official in relation to a criminal matter on March 2, 2022.
A statement from the Attorney General’s Office says the Nebraska State Patrol investigated Caudillo for sexual assault. The state declined to file charges against her due to insufficient evidence, but the statement says, “during the course of the investigation Caudillo was interviewed regarding the allegations and provided false information leading to official misconduct charge.”
Caudillo pleaded no contest to official misconduct in June and was sentenced on Thursday. As part of the terms of the plea deal, she resigned and surrendered her law enforcement certification. She was also ordered to pay $121 in fines and fees.
Kearney Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
