Columbus Public Schools Trunk or Treat draws large crowd

It was a night full of costumes and family fun at Columbus Middle School for the school district’s annual trunk or treat.

"This is absolutely awesome," Superintendent Troy Loeffelholz said. "We got high school groups here, we got teachers here, middle school groups are here, we got kids engaged and giving back to the community."

This is the ninth year of the event. School groups from Columbus Middle and High Schools and community organizations came out to show their support.

"A lot of these entities are great supporters of the school to begin with," President of the Columbus Public Schools Foundation Brian Chirstensen said. "Ernst Auto is a great supporter of the school district, always has been. And the hospital, one of the vice presidents there is on the board of directors at the foundation. Just to know that Remax and other realtors are out here and they realize that through the foundation and the things that we do is really important to housing, to education, to all of these things."

Last year, the event drew in over 12-hundred trick-or-treaters. This year might have drawn even more as the line to start making their way to all the cars stretched part way around the school. The main concern of the school district, however, is putting on a family-friendly event.

"That's what its all about is just bringing the families together, doing something that good as a family unit," Loeffelholz said. "Getting them here, having a little bit of fun, getting some candy, getting a little bit hyped up, you know, get some treats,, but for the most part it's family outreach, it's community outreach."
