COLUMBUS - Columbus Community Hospital is dedicating itself to keeping athletes safe this fall.

CCH announced Friday that it will be taking part in the "Safety in Football" campaign, organized by the Nebraska State Athletic Trainer's Association. The goal is to promote the importance of athletic trainers, and to help athletes in Nebraska stay safe on and off the field.

From August 26th - September 13th, numerous high schools and universities throughout the state will be donning a small helmet sticker on the back of each player's helmet. The sticker represents the cumulative efforts of these schools and the NSATA towards improving the safety of all sports in Nebraska.

According to the Korey Stringer Institute, 13 high school and one youth football players died during the 2015 football season, one of which occurred in Nebraska. CCH provides athletic training services to the three high schools in Columbus, as well as providing services to Central Community College and other universities in the area.
