RUSHVILLE, Neb. — A Gordon teenager involved in a stabbing that sent a man to the hospital has been sentenced to two years of probation.

Trevor Tayle, 19, was originally charged with attempted first-degree assault. Under a plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of attempted second-degree assault.

According to court documents, Tayle and Douglas Charging Thunder were involved in a fight when Tayle stabbed Charging Thunder below the left ear. Charging Thunder was taken to Gordon Memorial Hospital and later flown to Monument Health in Rapid City for treatment.

An arrest affidavit states the investigation began around 1 a.m. on June 6, when an officer received a report of a group being chased in Gordon. The officer located several people in the parking lot of the NAPA building, where one person reported that Charging Thunder had been chasing them with a bat and was covered in blood.

When police later located Charging Thunder nearby, his shirt was covered in blood. He told officers he had not realized he had been injured until someone pointed it out. Another person in the group was holding a bat, according to the affidavit.

In a separate case involving a stolen vehicle, Tayle was also sentenced to 24 months of probation. He was originally charged with theft by unlawful taking of more than $5,000 but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of attempted theft by unlawful taking.

According to court records, Tayle and two other people stole a pickup from the Gordon Livestock Market in June, shortly after the assault.
