Beatrice Board of Education OK's 2026-27 school calendar

BEATRICE, Neb. - The Beatrice Board of Education is moving forward with the 2026-27 school calendar.

In a school board meeting Monday night, the board voted unanimously in favor of next years calendar, which includes a few modifications.

Assistant Superintendent Jackie Nielsen says one of those is moving the last day of school to May 18th.

"We surveyed surrounding districts and most had end dates of May 19th or 20th" Nielsen said. "We're still right in line with dismissing with other districts... I do remember two or three years ago, when we were about five days later than most districts, it was a struggle for students and staff alike."

In addition, the district will do away with teachers coming back the day after the school year ends.

"They have a day to come back on November 30th," Nielsen said. "We did have staff feedback that November 30th provides a nice professional development day for teachers to come back and finish the semester strong.

The district also added March 11th to spring break.
