SIDNEY -- A grass fire resulted in a grass fire causing a plume of smoke east of Sidney this afternoon.

No injuries were reported and damage was limited to a shed.

"We were dispatched to a reported grass fire/structure fire. While enroute, I confirmed that it was a structure fire," said Sidney Fire Chief Matt Butts.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the fire focused on the shed.

"Upon arrival, the shed was fully involved, with bystanders helping the owner of the property with what we call 'green line,'" Butts said.

Green line is using garden hoses to battle the fire until firefighters arrive. Butts said neighbors also moved a camper that was adjacent to the shed.

"When our units arrived, they made entry. got a quick knock-down on it, within minutes of arrival. Upon talking with the owner during the investigation, determined that he was burning weeds on the back side of the shed earlier in the mid-morning, had used a hose, and thought he had cooled everything off in the area, but it worked its way into the building," he said.
