LINCOLN, Neb. — A familiar name from Central Nebraska is preparing to close the book on his college football career.

Kearney native Heinrich Haarberg is set to play his final game in the scarlet and cream this week after five seasons with the Nebraska football program.

Haarberg saw time at quarterback early in his career before transitioning to tight end.

Haarberg says his focus after the bowl game will quickly shift to what comes next.

He says he plans to return home to Kearney briefly before heading to Florida to begin training for the NFL.

He says he plans to pursue every opportunity available, whether that means a combine invite or a pro day, calling it a chance he has to fully commit to.

Haarberg was recently recognized as the 2025 Cletus Fischer Native Son Award-Winner, which is voted on by the coaching staff and given to a senior who best represents the state and program.

Haarberg said staying at Nebraska was "never a question," even as college football changed around him.

The 2025 SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl kicks off on New Year's Eve at 2:30 central against Utah.
