HASTINGS, Neb. — The streets of downtown Hastings illuminated for the annual Celebration of Lights, bringing the community together for a night of holiday cheer.

The Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce led the event for the second year, featuring favorites like carriage rides, letters to Santa, and interactive activities for kids. This year’s celebration also included a 15-foot Christmas tree and a Santa sleigh, which will remain downtown through the end of the year.

Visitors also enjoyed nearly 40 vendors, local food options and festive performances.

NCN broadcasted the event live, giving viewers a front-row seat to the giant tree lighting and downtown festivities.

Organizers say the event highlights how volunteers, local businesses and city departments work together to create memorable small-town holiday traditions.

"I think it’s great that we have a ton of restaurants open tonight and people are getting to enjoy downtown in the evening… just the opportunity to get downtown and spend time in fellowship with a lot of folks is great," said Hastings City Administrator Mark Funkey.

Organizers say the turnout reflects the strong community spirit in Hastings, with residents embracing the event as a tradition that brings people downtown to connect and celebrate.
