HASTINGS, Neb. – A man is hospitalized and some people were evacuated from their homes after a large anhydrous tank leak in Holstein.

According to a news release by Adams County Emergency Management, a 9-1-1 call came in late Tuesday night around 10:20 p.m. for a small spill at the CPI facility at 9870 Main Ave, that needed assistance from Holstein Fire to hose down.

Upon arrival, fire crews found a large active anhydrous leak from a cylinder within the plant, prompting a response from other nearby fire departments.

Authorities say one CPI employee was injured and taken by ambulance to Mary Lanning Hospital.

His condition is unknown at this time, but the release says he is not believed to have any life threatening injuries.

The leak caused an evacuation notice to homes directly southwest of the plant, and an alert warned residents of Holstein to shelter in place, close all doors and windows, turn off A/C units, and close all vents.

A fire department team was able to reach the anhydrous tank safely and turn off the valves.

An all clear was sent out to the residents at 11:42pm.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office, Roseland Fire, Kenesaw Fire, Blue Hill Fire, Hastings Rural Fire and the State Fire Inspector all assisted in the response and clean up.
