KEARNEY, Neb. - The Kearney community is stepping in with support and job opportunities following recent layoffs at Eaton and Technique Surfaces USA.

The Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce will host a job fair August 6 at the Kearney Sportsplex in response to major layoffs affecting local workers.

The event starts with a private session from two to four p.m. for impacted Eaton and T-S-USA employees, and then opens to the general public from four to six.

Chamber of Commerce officials say around 40 employers will be attending, along with other providers offering professional resources.

"It'll be great, and I think the unique thing too is we had businesses reach out that not only are maybe hiring, but they provide business resources. So maybe you need help with retirement 401k, maybe you need some kind of leadership development, things like that," said Kearney Chamber of Commerce President Derek Rusher. "These employees that have been laid off can also access some business resources perhaps or anything personal that they might need," said Rusher.

Officials say the event underscores an ongoing effort by local organizations to address pressing community needs.

Additional job fairs hosted by individual businesses are also being planned in the coming weeks.
