Construction underway for campground expansion at Pioneer Village

MINDEN, Neb.— A popular museum and campground in Minden is making substantial upgrades.

 

The Pioneer Village campground is under construction and will add 25 new sites. Pioneer Village is a museum and attraction started by Harold Warp in 1953. It showcases antique cars, historic buildings and has a multitude of vintage items.

 

A recent rise in popularity is allowing the campground to grow. After the upgrades, it will be double the current size.

 

Board member Al Lux is excited for the additional traffic the extension will offer.

 

“I think it’ll help increase the people through the front door because people are going to come here to camp and might not be coming for the museum,” said Lux. “I think the museum will get people to stay an extra day or two and they’ll tell their friends then pretty soon we’ll have groups coming in.”

14 of the sites will include pull-throughs and 11 will be back-in sites. They will be designed to accommodate the largest motorhome and 5th-wheel campers with 70-foot-deep concrete pads.

 

Each site will also have sewer, water and 50-amp electrical hookups.

 

The improved area will include a new shower bath house, laundry facility and an open-air shelter that will hold four to six picnic tables. 

 

Pioneer Village has also been hiring locally for each step of the construction, with companies from Minden, Kearney and surrounding communities completing projects.
