KEARNEY, Neb. --

The Heartland Bank on the north side of Kearney has been the site of multiple ATM crimes, and over the holiday weekend, it was once again targeted.

This time around, two arrests have been made.

When the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office and Kearney Police Department were tipped off to a possible ATM jackpotting vehicle, they entered the license plates into the recognition system on street lights around the city, according to the BCSO.

Sunday evening, the system got a hit for a Virginia plate they were keeping their collective eyes on as it drove by the Heartland Bank ATM, officials say.

It led law enforcement to a traffic stop for speeding, where two men were arrested.

Cristian Manuel Tovar-Olivares, 24, was arrested for attempted burglary after it was determined he had gained unauthorized access to the ATM.

The driver, Snaider Sthiferson Castro Hidalgo, 32, was arrested for accessory to a felony.

Both men were booked in the Buffalo County jail.

ATM jackpotting is a deceptive way of fooling the machine into unloading its cash.
