HASTINGS, Neb. – The Hastings Public Library is transitioning to a new Library Director for the first time in 16 years.

On Monday, the Hastings City Council unanimously confirmed the appointment of Brianna Weichel as the new HPL Director on an 8-0 vote.

Weichel has been the Library Services and Information Literacy Coordinator at Hastings College since July 2020, and will take over the new role on Feb. 24.

She returns to the Hastings Public Library after serving as its Library Circulation Coordinator from 2014-2018.

Weichel is replacing former Library Director Amy Dissmeyer, who stepped down last December after holding the position since 2009.

"I am excited for the opportunity to return to HPL, and I look forward to working closely with the public and the city of Hastings." said Weichel at Monday's meeting.
