Stolen truck recovered in Kearney

The Kearney Police Department relied on their camera system across the city to successfully recover a stolen truck.

KEARNEY, Neb. -- The Kearney Police Department relied on their camera system across the city to successfully recover a stolen truck.

Officers were alerted to the situation on Sunday around 6:20 p.m. CT of a truck being taken from the Country Club Plaza apartments. The owner's girlfriend had seen it driving around town.

KPD entered the truck's information into the Flock Safety Automated License Plate Reader system and were able to locate it.

Joel Jones, 39, of Kearney was arrested without incident. He is charged with felony theft by unlawful taking over $5,000 and possession of burglary tools. 

Bond has been set for 10% of $20,000 and the next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 2, 2025.
