HASTINGS, Neb. – Hastings Public Schools Superintendent Jeff Schneider is concluding his education career after 31 years of service to the school district.

Schneider has been the school district's superintendent since 2019, and announced his retirement during a board meeting last Thursday.

Schneider said he’s been thinking about this decision for “quite a while,” but he feels like now is the right time.

“I think it may be time for a new set of eyes to run this organization,” Schneider said. “The other thing I feel like is, we have an extremely strong board and I feel like it is a great time for somebody to come in when they have that kind of support rather than maybe if you had a board that was struggling. That could be difficult as a new leader.”

Our news partners, KSNB Local 4, report that Hastings Public Schools has hired McPherson & Jacobson, a leading national search firm, to help the district find their next superintendent.

Schneider will finish out the school year at Hastings before retiring.
