GRAND ISLAND, Neb. –- Grand Island residents are now more familiar with the police and its resources after community event.

National Night Out is a day that allows law enforcement to strengthen ties with the community by showing the more human side of officers. But according to Grand Island Police Chief Kevin Denney, it also lets the department show the many resources are available to the community.

“Because they come out and see people sometimes at their worst moments, in a crisis situation and we need the equipment to get there, we need the equipment to handle the situation," said Denney. "So it’s a good opportunity for the community to come and see what they are paying for.”

Denney says the event is a great way to meet people and spend quality time with community members.

Police were available for questions and the community was able to get a glimpse of the police rescue vehicle, police drones and other police vehicles.
