GRAND ISLAND, Neb.- - A man from Missouri is dead after driving into a lake in central Nebraska.

The Hall County Sherrif’s Department says they responded to Mormon Island State Recreation Area in Grand Island to a report of a vehicle that had driven into the far west lake Wednesday afternoon.

When officials arrived they found a semi and trailer submerged in the water and the driver, 69-year-old Verlin Hunt of Missouri, inside.

Officials say that life saving measures were taken but Hunt died at the scene.

According to the investigation, the semi was eastbound on I-80 when it crossed through the median and both westbound lanes of I-80.
