KEARNEY, Neb. — Five people are displaced after a fire at a trailer park in Kearney.

The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department says firefighters were dispatched to East Lawn Trailer Park around 3:20 Monday afternoon. A news release says crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from a home when they arrived. After confirming that everyone was out, firefighters performed a fire attack and brought the blaze under control.

The State Fire Marshal is still investigating what caused the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the five people who lived in the home. There were no injuries.

The fire department says the home had a smoke alarm but that it wasn’t working. Officials encourage people to test their alarms monthly and replace batteries annually.
