HASTINGS, Neb. — The National Weather Service says severe weather is once again likely to strike Central Nebraska.

The NWS lists much of the region in an enhanced risk of severe weather on Friday, which is the third highest category out of five. Forecasters say the biggest threat with the expected storms is wind speeds greater than 70 mph. The storms could also produce quarter-size hail but are unlikely to produce tornadoes.

Forecasters say the storms could materialize early in the afternoon in the Sandhills region and move south through Dawson County and the Tri-Cities during the mid-afternoon and early evening.

The NWS says high winds are more of a concerns south of Custer County and hail is a greater concern in Custer County and north.
