Former Juniata resident Ernest W. Jenkins, 92, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Countryside Home, Madison, NE. 

Graveside Services with military rites by the Hastings Military Honor Guard will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 3, at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings with Pastor Darren Olson officiating. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. with family present 3-5 p.m. Sunday, June 2 at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Christ Lutheran Church. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Ernest was born January 28, 1932, in Greenfield, MO to Ernest Cleo and Henrietta (Jones) Jenkins. He attended school in Joplin, MO, and moved to Hastings in 1952. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict from 1948 until 1952 and received three Purple Hearts and two Stars for his service. Ernest married Coleen Sueverkruebbe on July 22, 1965; she preceded him in death on August 5, 2014.

From 1958 to 1965 Ernest worked for Fast Construction, from 1965 to 1981 he worked for Carmichael Construction, and from 1981 to 1994 he worked for Metz Bakery; retiring in 1994 he later worked part-time for Dykeman’s Motor Sales for several years. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of rural Juniata.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Cory Zinn; brothers, Alvin Jenkins, Frank Jenkins, Dean Jenkins, and Elvis Jenkins; sisters, Evelyn Petrich, Sue Christman, and Eva Walker; and sister-in-law, Nancy Ellenwood.
