HASTINGS, Neb. — More than 7,000 Adams County residents voted in Tuesday’s primary election and influenced the future of government in the county.
Unofficially, Adams County received 7,129 ballots. That’s good for a 37.39% voter turnout, which is above the 27% total statewide. Of those who voted 4,866 were Republicans, 1,502 were Democrats, 38 were Libertarians, seven were members of the Legal Marijuana Now party and 716 were nonpartisan.
Hastings resident John Walz received about 28% of the vote in his challenge of incumbent U.S. Rep. Adrian Smith. Statewide Walz received just 18.6% of the vote.
Kenesaw voted to approve a 1.5% sales tax. The tax aims to raise $65,000 to fund a new swimming pool, playground equipment and other village activities. 152 people voted in favor of the issue and 105 voted against it.
