Grand Island domestic dispute leads to kidnapping, police say

A Grand Island man is in jail after police say he kidnapped a child.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- A Grand Island man is in jail after police say he kidnapped a child.

According to Grand Island Police, a 24-year-old woman called on Friday reporting her one-year-old son had been kidnapped by her boyfriend, Diblan Cortez-Hernandez. 

Police say the woman was in a domestic dispute while driving with Cortez-Hernandez, who is not the child's father. She left the car to go inside her apartment and Cortez drove away in her vehicle with the child inside. The woman told police she felt her child might be in danger.

Police say that as they were taking her statement, Cortez-Hernandez showed up with the baby. Officers interviewed him and arrested him on kidnapping and unauthorized use of a vehicle charges.
