GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity is expanding its reach outside of its namesake city.

According to a news release, the non-profit has acquired four pieces of land in Aurora.

Officials said the expansion is part of the Board of Directors' strategic plan to grow its programming into all four counties within its service area, which includes Hamilton, Merrick, Howard and Hall counties.

Habitat houses will be built on the Aurora lots over the next several years. Applications for the Home Loan program will open in December. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2025.
