GRETNA, Neb. (KSNB) - Arizona authorities are trying to figure out what happened to a Gretna teenager whose remains were found in the ashes of a bonfire at a national forest near Phoenix.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s office says the burned remains of 18-year-old Parker League were found June 12 in the ashes of a bonfire at the Tonto National Forest east of Phoenix. His family then reported him missing three days after authorities discovered the remains. At last report, they hadn’t yet determined how he died or how his remains ended up in the bonfire, although they did say that League’s death was “malicious.”
MCSO wouldn’t confirm whether or not the body itself was burned inside the bonfire pit or the condition of the remains.
The case is being investigated as a homicide.
Investigators confirmed that League had been visiting friends or family in the Tempe area.
