KEARNEY, Neb. — A Kearney man is in the hospital after an accident involving a pickup and a camper.

The Kearney County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 2:30 Thursday afternoon about two miles south of Kearney. A news release says a pickup turned east from Highway 44 onto Highway 50A and hit the back of a camper towed by a pickup, which had stalled in the eastbound lane. 72-year-old David Lewis of Kearney was in front of the pickup making repairs. The release says the crash pushed the pickup forward, dragging Lewis underneath the vehicle.

An ambulance transported Lewis to a local hospital with unspecified injuries. The driver of the pickup and its two passengers were not seriously hurt.

The investigation is ongoing. The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, Good Samaritan EMS, Kearney County Emergency Management and the Nebraska State Patrol all assisted at the scene.
