KEARNEY, Neb. — Three people are behind bars following an investigation into an armed robbery, vehicle theft and shooting in Kearney.

The Kearney Police Department says officers responded to a report of an armed robbery around 2:30 Thursday morning. The victim told police that two men, one white and one Black, had robbed him at gun point an assaulted him.

Around 6:00 that morning, police say a woman called saying her pickup was being stolen by two men. A news release says she followed the thieves in a different vehicle before the pickup stopped and the driver started shooting a handgun at her. Police later found the pickup abandoned outside of town.

Investigators with Kearney Police and the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office determined the crimes were related and identified 26-year-old Ronnie Swartz as a suspect. Court documents say an officer was conducting surveillance on a house in the 800 block of E 36th St. around 8:45 Thursday night. The officer saw Swartz, who now had an active arrest warrant, load a car with items, get in it with two other people and start the car. The documents say the officer blocked the driveway with an unmarked police car and all three suspects fled on foot.

The court documents say Swartz failed to jump a fence and was forcefully arrested. Officers say they found meth and a stolen wallet in his pockets. They found 11 ounces of marijuana, prescription pills, a weigh scale and a stolen laptop in the car. The laptop and wallet had been reported missing by the robbery victim.

Swartz is being held in the Buffalo County Jail on $250,000 bond. His first court date is set for June 7. His list of charges include robbery, theft, six drug charges, obstruction, and resisting arrest.

Officers also arrested 26-year-old Jerome Quinn of Omaha after a pursuit. Court documents say he was carrying a backpack containing 54 grams of marijuana, a meth pipe, several baggies, an envelope full of cash, lock picking tools and a vehicle title belonging to the robbery victim. Officers say he discarded prescription pills during the pursuit.

Quinn is being held in the Buffalo County Jail on $250,000 bond. He faces four drug charges, theft, resisting arrest, obstruction and possession of burglary tools charges. He is due in court on June 7.

A news release says officers arrested 40-year-old Scott Dye of Kearney for two out of state warrants. He is being held in the Buffalo County Jail on $100,000 bond.

Police say this remains an active investigation.
