OMAHA, Neb. -- An inmate from Buffalo County who had gone missing from an Omaha facility is back in custody, according the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.

NDCS officials said that Julian Tapia was arrested and booked into the Douglas County Correctional Center Friday.

Tapia had gone missing from the Community Corrections Center in Omaha on February 19 when he allegedly removed his electronic monitor approximately one mile from the facility.

Tapia started his sentence in July of 2020. He was sentenced to 8-to-21 years for first-degree assault and second-degree assault charges out of Buffalo County. He has a parole hearing scheduled for February of next year and a tentative release date of September 16, 2030.

CCC-O is one of two community custody facilities operated by NDCS. Community custody is the lowest custody level and the least restrictive facility. Inmates are allowed to participate in work opportunities, attend school and religious services with prior approval and without direct supervision.
