Former GI standout transferring from Virginia to Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. – One of the most highly recruited Nebraska high school basketball players will be transferring back to his home state.

Grand Island grad Isaac Traudt, who began his career at Virginia, will be leaving Charlottesville to play for Creighton and head coach Greg McDermott.

Traudt announced earlier this week that he was leaving the Cavaliers’ program, stating that he wanted to continue his college basketball career closer to home. He made his announcement that he was joining the Bluejays Friday morning on Twitter.

He had been recruited by both Creighton and Nebraska coming out of high school.

Traudt is a 6-foot-10, 230 lb. forward who redshirted in his lone season at Virginia. He was a four-year letterwinner with the Islanders, averaging 23 points and eight rebounds in his final season in Grand Island. He scored over 25 points and hauled in over nine rebounds per game as junior.

Barring any offseason departures, Traudt would become the third Nebraskan on the Creighton roster, joining fellow central Nebraskan Baylor Scheierman (Aurora) and Millard North grad Jasen Green.

The Bluejays had four transfers on their Elite 8 roster this past season, including Scheierman, who had transferred from South Dakota State.

Creighton loses senior Francisco Farabello heading into next season. The only other senior on the roster, Scheierman, has another year of eligibility that he could use if he chooses, though Scheierman tested the NBA Draft waters before transferring to Creighton last offseason. Junior center Ryan Kalkbrenner is also considered a possibility to test the professional market.
