GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- A man from David City was arrested after a pursuit near Grand Island.

The Nebraska State Patrol said a trooper saw a Chevrolet Equinox heading east and reportedly speeding at over 100 mph on Interstate 80, near mile marker 296, at 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

Officials said the trooper tried to perform a traffic stop but the driver didn't cooperate and sped up, starting a pursuit. The Equinox reportedly continued east, passing other vehicles before exiting the interstate at mile marker 314.

According to authorities, the Equinox headed north towards Grand Island before turning east on Highway 34. The driver reportedly threw a bag out of the window at this time during the pursuit.

Officers said they were able to set out stop sticks at the intersection of Highway 34 and Highway 2, forcing the Equinox to stop. The driver was reportedly taken into custody and the bag that was thrown out earlier was recovered, revealing that more than one pound of marijuana was inside.

NSP said the driver of the Equinox was 25-year-old James Speicher, of David City. Speicher was arrested for willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving under suspension. He was lodged at the Hall County Jail.
