Kearney Public Schools offering new online counseling program
Kearney Public Schools is starting a counseling service for middle school and high school students that can be accessed by phone, app, or website.
By News Channel NebraskaKEARNEY, Neb. — Kearney Public Schools is starting a counseling service for middle school and high school students that can be accessed by phone, app, or website.
It's called the Student Assistance Program and is available for free for students in grades 6-12. Parents must sign consent forms before students can use the program.
“Our students often need support during times when traditional counseling offices are closed,” Superintendent Jason Mundorf said in a news release. “This service will immediately help students when they need it and help bridge the gap of time needed to find a local therapist to support them.”
A news release says Kearney Public Schools will receive utilization statistics on the number of people using the service, but no personal, identifying information will be disclosed.
The Student Assistance Program is designed to support a wide range of issues including dealing with test anxiety, managing stress, a breakup, grief, and self-esteem issues. Students can call or text at any time of day or night.
